FOOD BANK

Need Addressed:  The Food Bank assists families to stretch their limited resources. This type of assistance from The Potter’s Wheel frees money in their budget to pay rent, utilities, and other expenses, and as with The Diner, serves to keep some residents who are caught between the expenses of shelter and food from crossing the threshold into homelessness.

Program Description:  Bags of bread, canned goods and meat are offered to those who attend church services each Sunday. Persons must attend worship services in order to receive food. However, The Potter’s Wheel also provides several bags of food to individuals or families when requested by another agency due to an emergency situation. Except for the USDA commodities program, food items are received from the same sources as those listed under The Diner.

Mission Alignment:  The food bank aligns to The Potter’s Wheel Ministries’ mission by meeting physical and spiritual needs among inner-city Evansville residents.

Goal/Impact:  The goal is to provide increased food security and improved nutrition, to increase income available for basic needs, and to meet spiritual needs for low-income Evansville residents.

Outputs:  During the first six months expected outputs will be that at least 20 bags of food will be distributed per week benefiting at least 75 family members. During the last six months of the grant period, at least 25 bags of food will be distributed per week, benefiting an average of 82 family members.

The name of each recipient and the number in his/her household will be recorded each week during the Sunday food distribution. Proof of identity of each person receiving food will not be required. A report will be submitted to the administrator prior to the monthly meeting of the board of directors.

Outcomes:  The outcomes are to increase available household income, increase food security, improve nutrition and provide for spiritual needs.
